Inspired by my love of ghost towns and weird abandoned places, the Wash Woods Legacy series traces the lives of various inhabitants of the town of Wash Woods, Virginia. In the early 20th century, Wash Woods was a bustling town of 300 people located on a spit of land about five miles from the North Carolina border in what is now False Cape State Park in Virginia Beach, Virginia. After years of enduring hard storms that flooded the town, the residents abandoned the town. Today, all that remains is the church steeple and a graveyard.
However, their stories remain.
